How to Prepare for a Christmas Family Photoshoot
A family photoshoot during the Christmas season should not feel like an appointment, but like a lovely moment together. With a little preparation that is exactly what it becomes — even with small children.
1. Plan around the children's rhythm
The best light is useless when the little ones are tired. Choose a time after the nap, pack snacks and leave some buffer. I photograph patiently — breaks are part of it.
2. A colour palette instead of matching outfits
Pick two or three base colours and combine them freely: for example cream, forest green and camel or burgundy, grey and beige. Textures like knitwear, corduroy and wool bring the pictures to life.
3. Bring your traditions
Favourite cookies, an old Christmas bauble, the cuddly toy that comes along every year — details like these tell your story and make the photos personal.
4. Indoors or outdoors?
- Outdoors: a Christmas market at blue hour or a winter walk in the park — rosy cheeks and lots of movement.
- At home: decorating the tree, baking cookies, wrapping presents — cosy, warm and independent of the weather.
5. Think of your holiday cards
If you want to send cards, let me know: I plan landscape frames with space for text and send you a few favourites in advance so everything is ready in time.
6. Let go
The most beautiful pictures happen when you are busy with each other — not with the camera. Laugh, tickle, hug. I will take care of the rest.
