A Christmas Market Photoshoot in Munich: the Most Beautiful Spots & Tips
There is hardly a time when Munich glows as warmly as during Advent. Thousands of lights, the smell of roasted almonds and people moving closer together — exactly this mood makes a Christmas market photoshoot so special.
The most beautiful spots for your Christmas photos
Christkindlmarkt at Marienplatz — the classic in front of the New Town Hall. Best early in the evening on a weekday, when the lights are on but there is still room to breathe.
Christmas village in the Residenz courtyard — smaller, cosier and wonderfully photogenic: wooden huts, warm light and historic walls.
Medieval market at Wittelsbacherplatz — torches, fire bowls and an almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Perfect for couples who like it a little more romantic.
Chinese Tower in the English Garden — the market around the tower combines festive spirit with nature. Ideal if you want to add a winter walk afterwards.
The best time: blue hour
In December the magic window is roughly between 4:15 and 5:00 pm. The sky is still deep blue while the fairy lights are already glowing — that gives pictures with depth and warm bokeh lights in the background.
What should we wear?
- Coordinated but not identical colours: cream, camel, forest green, burgundy
- Knitwear, wool coats, scarves and hats — they look warm and photograph beautifully
- Leave big logos and neon colours at home
Small ideas for natural moments
Share a cup of children's punch, try a sweet pastry together, lift the little ones onto your shoulders to look over the crowd — I follow you, and you simply enjoy the evening. That is how you get memories instead of posed photos.
December dates go quickly. Write to me about a Christmas shoot or have a look at my prices.
